This is what we believe to be a set of six Georgian, Continental, multi spiral air twist stem wine glasses dating from the mid 18th century, c1760. The glasses are in excellent condition for their age. This means of course that they show age related wear and tear to both the rims of the bowls and to the rims of the feet consistent with some 250 years of use.
They have rough pontil marks on the bottoms of the feet which are nicely striated. The glasses have bell-shaped bowls measuring 7.5 cm (3 inches) in diameter at the rims. The bowls are plain and sit on multi spiral air twist stems where the twists extend up into the bases of the bowls. The stems have a short straight section below which is an inverted baluster. The stems lead to conical feet which measure 7.8 cm (3.1 inches) in diameter. The glasses are 17.5 cm (7 inches) in height. Dimensions vary slightly from glass to glass as is to be expected from hand-blown glasses. There are no chips, cracks, significant scratches or any obvious evidence of restoration. Some of the glasses have small inclusions and unburst bubbles from manufacture. Each glass weighs in at 138 g.
